Cup Match
Complete United U13 fought valiantly but fell short in their cup tie against Badshot Lea Tornados U13, losing 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter on Saturday, January 18th. Despite battling with just 11 players and going toe-to-toe with a well-organised Badshot Lea side, Complete United couldn’t quite complete their comeback, despite a spirited second-half response.
The match kicked off with both teams showing great intent. Complete United, playing with energy and determination, created several promising chances in the first half, playing some attractive football with clever passing and good movement off the ball. The defence, marshalled by the ever-reliable goalkeeper and back line, stood firm, denying Badshot Lea any clear opportunities to break the deadlock. At the other end, Complete’s forwards were busy, putting pressure on the opposition, but couldn’t quite find the finishing touch. As the whistle blew for halftime, it was 0-0 — a fair reflection of an evenly matched first half.
The second half saw Badshot Lea come out strong, and they took control of the game with two quick goals. The first came from a rebound after a great save from Josh after an attempted lob, and not long after, Badshot Lea doubled their lead with a superb free-kick from distance.
With the score at 2-0, Complete United dug deep and showed immense character. Despite the challenge of having no subs they kept pressing forward and creating chances. Their hard work paid off late in the game when Kelen found the net to give Complete a glimmer of hope, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
The final few minutes were frantic, with Complete United pouring everything into finding an equaliser. The boys came agonisingly close on two occasions, striking the crossbar twice, but the equaliser never came. In the end, it was Badshot Lea who held on to their lead, securing the 2-1 victory.
It was a tough result for Complete United, but the players should hold their heads high after a display full of heart, skill, and determination. The boys played some excellent football and never gave up, even when faced with adversity. A special mention to Alfie who was awarded MOM for his fantastic defensive display.
Good luck to Badshot Lea Tornados U13 as they progress to the next round of the cup. Complete United will take pride in their performance and continue to build for the rest of the season.
