The boys were playing at home again, following a superb away victory from the previous week. Considering the recent weather, the pitch was in decent condition, a bit boggy in places but definitely playable. We warmed up well, going through some dynamic stretches, then into some short, sharp passing which progressed into a keep ball exercise, in which the tempo was very good.

The first half was a frustrating one. We were trying to play some nice football, but it was often the final ball that was letting us down. When we found ourselves with a chance in front of goal, we didn’t manage to take it. Despite this, the whole team were putting in a lot of hard work, especially the midfield of Tom, Andrew and Dexter, with those boys covering a lot of ground and fighting to win the ball back and drive us forwards.

Farnham pressed very well and moved the ball quickly. They scored early on in the first half from a goalmouth scramble following a corner which wasn’t defended well by our boys. Farnham bagged another just before half time, a long diagonal through ball beating our defence which their quick striker latched on to and slotted past Albert in goal. We went in 2-0 down at half time, but as Kris said, he wasn’t disappointed as the boys hadn’t played badly and knew goals would come.

The second half was end to end to say the least. The boys came out fighting, and managed to score a couple of goals early into the half to get themselves back into the game. However, Farnham were up for it as well, as soon after they scored again to go 3-2 up. This didn’t stop our boys, and we showed great resilience to push on and score again. Farnham then scored from a set piece – a good delivery into the box and their tall striker got his head on to make it 4-3 to Farnham. As I mentioned earlier, the boys were not backing down and they managed to bag 2 more goals to secure the 3 points in a 5-4 victory which was a great game for the neutrals! A couple of very good finishes from George, who also came close with a shot almost breaking the crossbar, and Sam produced a lovely finish as well. Andrew showed some great close control to drive into the box and slot the ball into the near corner. Tom Quick had an outstanding performance in CM and was a very deserving MOM.

Next match is away in Petersfield and we are after another 3 points. UTC!
